When should you visit the North Atlantic?

Many guests ask us, “When is the best time to visit the North Atlantic?”

Thankfully, whenever you visit, you will have a huge range of wildlife, cultural and historical marvels to experience. The winter in the North Atlantic is long and stormy, but summer can be equally challenging with large numbers of visitors in some locations. Visit our When to Travel page for more details.

Even if your time to travel is constrained, we offer time-efficient exploration options in a variety of destinations, all the way through to longer in-depth voyages combining several destinations.

Pro tip: Prices tend to be higher during the peak holiday period in July and August, due to price pressure on flights and accommodation. Travelling during the Spring (May/June) offers guests the chance to see the best of the region while avoiding Summer crowds and Autumn storms.

All About Pricing

We know it can be confusing sometimes to look at Arctic Season voyage prices and get a clear idea of what you’ll pay for your voyage. Here are some important things to understand as you start to plan your journey.

Prices are always shown on a per-person basis. When you’re looking at the price of a stateroom or suite, you need to multiply that by the number of people in your party. If you’re traveling alone, we will pair you with another single traveler of the same gender who booked your same cabin class. (You will also share your included hotel nights with them.) If you do not want to share, you may request to remain a single, and we will charge you the per-person cabin rate times 1.7.

All voyage prices include the following:

  • All landings and Zodiac cruises during your voyage
  • Selected shoreside activities, as per itinerary (please check individual itineraries for inclusions)
  • All Meals and Dinner Drink Package

Choosing an Itinerary

Wherever you choose to go in the North Atlantic region, warm cultural experiences and fantastic vistas can be found at every turn. The North Atlantic is a vast geographical region occupied by a variety of countries, languages and cultures, and your chosen destination will strongly influence your overall experience. From the dripping greenery of Ireland, the breath-taking Highlands and Islands of Scotland to the undiscovered cliffs and meadows of the Faroe Islands, this region offers huge variety to explorers willing to leave the major cities!

Visiting a particular region our country is a good place to start – many of our North Atlantic voyages combine visits to several countries, whereas some offer in-depth exploration of only one nation. Some voyages are shorter expeditions which can fit into a week of travel, whereas others are longer, transiting significant parts of the ocean across several countries, climates and ecoregions.

Please note: The majority of our North Atlantic voyages begin and end in larger cities in the region such as Dublin and Aberdeen, to allow easy access for explorers. North Atlantic expeditions do not include a hotel night, so departure is on day one – please bear this in mind when planning your pre-voyage travel. Flight arrival and departure airports and inclusions vary, so please see individual expeditions for specifics, as well as day-to-day details about the expedition and the exciting experiences on offer.
