24/25 Season Wrap Up
Wrapping Up an Epic 24/25 Season
As our 2024/25 season comes to a close, we can’t help but reflect on all the incredible moments we were lucky enough to experience. From jaw-dropping wildlife encounters to legendary landings and inspiring special guests, this season truly delivered. It’s going to be a tough one to beat, but you can bet we’ll keep pushing to make every voyage unforgettable.
A Whale-y Good Season
This season, the whales were on a mission to steal the show! From Fournier Bay’s “whale soup” mornings to curious orcas sidling up to the ship and humpbacks putting on spectacular aerial displays, it was a banner year for cetacean sightings. Oh, and let’s not forget the four Blue Whale encounters—an incredibly rare treat!
A King Among Kings
Emperor Penguins are the elusive royalty of the Antarctic, and this year, we hit the jackpot—spotting a record eight individuals in one season! Given how rarely they venture into our travel routes, each sighting was nothing short of magical.
A Historic Discovery
Mid-season, our team had a “wait a minute…” moment when we spotted debris exposed in the famous A23a iceberg. A little detective work later, and we were able to match it to the long-lost USSR Antarctic field station Druzhnaya 1, which disappeared when A23a broke away from the Filchner-Ronne Ice Shelf in 1986. A truly incredible find!
Nice Ice, Baby
The season kicked off with a special landing as our Captain expertly wedged Seaventure into the fast ice- an experience that guests absolutely loved. So, naturally, we kept doing it! This icy tradition carried on well into January, creating some seriously cool memories.
Cape Rosa: Walking in Shackleton’s Footsteps
History came to life in January when our zodiacs made landfall at Cape Rosa, the very spot where Shackleton and his crew first set foot after their harrowing journey aboard the James Caird. Standing where they once stood? Goosebumps.
A Slew of Special Guests
We had an all-star lineup of special guests this season, kicking things off with renowned photographer Ami Vitale, who led an immersive photography program in the Falklands, South Georgia, and Antarctica. She was followed by six more distinguished photographers, plus a host of scientists—including penguin counters from Oceanites and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution team.
We also had the privilege of welcoming students from Escuela Julio Verne in Ushuaia, winners of the Polar Latitudes scholarship program AND a record number of weddings/vow renewals on board! To top it all off, the Curious Traveler PBS film crew joined us in February for a special Celebrating Antarctica voyage—we can’t wait to see the episodes air in Fall 2025!
What. A. Season. Thanks to all our guests, crew, and special guests for making it unforgettable. Until next time, Antarctica!
