2022/23 Antarctic Expedition Cruise Season – Special Guests and Programming
Antarctica Awaits
With our 2022-23 season about to kick off, our staff and crew from around the world are getting ‘excited butterflies’ deep in their bellies, knowing that soon we will be in our favorite place on earth – Antarctica. The ships are on their way to the Southern Hemisphere, lists are being finalized, bags are getting packed, and we know that our soon-to-be guests are also feeling the exhilaration of dream trips about to come true. With a list of exceptional guests and unique programming on the way, let’s review why everyone is so eager for the 2022-23 Antarctic season to begin.
A voyage years in the making, the Shackleton’s Final Quest itinerary features so many special guests that it may be the most highly anticipated trip of the season. On this voyage, guests will travel alongside a team of renowned historians, biographers, and polar explorers, including the granddaughter of Shackleton himself, the Hon. Alexandra Shackleton. The trip also includes exceptional experiences such as visits to Point Wild on Elephant Island and the rarely seen King Haakon Bay, an onboard reception with the Governor of the Falklands, and a special visit to Grytviken to honor Shackleton.
Our Photo Explorer voyage, departing in January 2023, features seven talented photographers, each with their own skill set. Based on our ‘Celebrating Antarctica’ itinerary, guests will rub shoulders with an all-star team of photographers and be able to shoot with them in the field, attend their formal presentations, and enjoy informal chats in the bar and common areas. Featuring travel photographer Brendan Van Son, photojournalist Mike Mezeul II, nature photographer Simon Baxter, in addition to famed photographers and educators such as Erin Babnik, Rachael Talibart, Jeff Bartlett, and Julia Trotti.
A special tribute will be paid to Shackleton at his grave in Grytviken.

An important part of traveling with Polar Latitudes is our company’s commitment to combining passenger tourism with meaningful scientific research. The Seaventure features a dedicated science laboratory, utilized during voyages to analyze samples that will be collected. We are also excited to have the role of ‘Citizen Science Coordinator’ on both ships to facilitate research and education for our Citizen Science program.
Guests keen to celebrate the holidays on the White Continent will experience a festive Polar Latitudes experience aboard the Seaventure on our ‘Christmas in Antarctica’ itinerary. Similarly, passengers on the Island Sky for our ‘Holidays in Antarctica’ voyage will be revelling in holiday cheer as they explore the Antarctic Peninsula, viewing the regions spectacular landscapes and wildlife.
In the new year, our expedition team endeavours to reach 66°33’S on the ‘Crossing the Circle’ trip. An attainable ambition, we aim for our guests to reach the furthest reaches of the earth by officially crossing the Antarctic Circle in January 2023.

Later in the season, we look forward to hosting some of the world’s most passionate environmental champions during the ‘Walking Softer Leadership Summit’. This inspiring team of people are working together to build a more sustainable future and investing in future change-makers and impressive young leaders that have dedicated themselves as innovators of solutions for the planet.
